Longarm Certification

During your 1 on 1 Longarm Certification Class with Sheri you will learn all you need to know in order to longarm quilt your own first quilt!  I introduce you to the different settings of the machine, help you to find the one which best suits your style (yes!  You do have a style, even if you've never touched a longarm machine before!).  Then you will learn how to load the separate layers of your quilt onto the frame, baste the quilt in place and give yourself a visual reference of your working boundary.

Then we move on to the fun stuff!  From this point on the class is tailored to your own needs.  We start learning some basic quilting patterns, again taking your own personal taste into consideration.  We will also cover the use of pantographs, and how to advance the quilt after quilting a pass.

My goal for teaching this class is that I love the idea that each quilter can say that they have made and quilted their own quilts from the very first stitch to the very last!  Longarm quilting is so much fun - and nowhere near as intimidating as it might seem!  If you can doodle a single line doodle, you can longarm quilt!

Alternative days or times may be available by arrangement with Sheri.

If you have any questions please do call the store and ask to speak with Sheri, I'll be happy to help!

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This is a class for beginner longarm quilters to learn the very basics, and for us to ensure that the customer knows how to operate the machine safely. If you have rented before, but not from us, you will need to complete this course so that we can assess your ability. If you have completed your certification, but have not used the longarm machine for over three months you will need to complete a one-hour refresher course at $50.
Materials Included: Everything you need for the class is covered by the cost, including fabrics, batting and thread.
Requirements: A great attitude!
Instructor: Sheri Lund
Instructor Bio: I began longarm quilting in 2015, when our two boys became old enough to be more independent, and the empty nest was looming! I bought a Gammill Statler, named Violet after my grandmother who was a very talented tailor. I very quickly became hooked (it gets you that way!), and at a Gammill Retreat at Kawartha Quilting in Ontario I learned just how much I had to learn about computerized quilting! For the year that followed I lived, breathed and ate longarm quilting, and even now I am constantly learning. Since then I have been lucky enough to be kept quilting constantly, and I bought a second machine, Bella, which is the beautiful, sparkly purple Gammill which I rent to others so that they can quilt their own quilts. I would like nothing better than to help you on your road to your own longarm quilting story, and seeing quilters' faces when they realize that this is something they CAN do absolutely makes my day!
Includes everything needed for the class, bring a drink and a snack if desired.
